Coach Abbie: My Journey with We Make Footballers
Hey everyone! I'm Abbie, and for the past 12 months, I've been a proud member of the We Make Footballers team. From day one, my passion has been to help young players not just improve their skills, but, more importantly, to ensure they genuinely enjoy and have fun with the game. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience, offering me the chance to work with so many talented and enthusiastic players. It’s a true privilege to watch their confidence, ability, and love for football grow week after week.
The Coaching Environment
What I value most about coaching at We Make Footballers is the commitment to creating a positive and supportive environment. There are so many memorable moments—in the sun or the rain—that reinforce why I love this job. Every session is built around fun, development, and building a genuine love for the sport, whether a child is taking their very first steps on the pitch or preparing to join an academy.
Growth and Support
I knew I was in the right place the moment I joined. The team was supportive, and I was instantly welcomed by both staff and players. Crucially, I was trusted from the beginning—a belief in me that I didn’t quite have in myself yet. This support and encouragement were vital to my growth and development as a coach. Now, just 10 months later, I’m proud to have gained the confidence and experience to take on more responsibility. I’m now trusted to lead and run sessions independently, a level of autonomy that felt miles away when I first started.
My Vision for the Future
A key reason I was drawn to coaching is my own experience of having a strong bond with a coach—someone I could trust, look up to, and learn from. That connection made a lasting impact on me, and now I want to be that inspirational figure for others. My goal is to create a space where every young player feels supported, valued, and inspired.
I aspire to become a full-time coach, and I would love for that opportunity to be with We Make Footballers. I’m eager to continue growing with the company, learning more about the business operations, and gaining a deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed, both on the pitch and behind the scenes. I’m excited to keep moving forward on this journey; this is exactly what I want my future to look like.
