Soaring through the ranks at We Make Footballers: Meet 19 Year-Old Academy Manager Sophia

With 2000 children currently attending We Make Footballers classes and holiday camps, our focus is to provide professional football coaching to players of all abilities within a safe environment. This can only be done by ensuring that we have the best team of coaches, we do this by investing in our staff and offering them continual professional development. Our WMF Qualifications (1, 2, 3 and 4) are recognised within the coaching community and our coaches begin working towards these from their first day at We Make Footballers.

WMF 5 IN 5

Over the years, we’ve worked with over 200 coaches and have been able to give individuals from all different walks of life the opportunity to gain professional coaching experience. Our coaches play a key role in the development of the sport within their local communities and one of our 5 in 5 goals is to contribute 1000 hours of voluntary coaching. We Make Footballers do this by working with talented and passionate individuals who see the difference they make to each child in every one of their sessions.

SOPHIA'S PROGRESSION

Coach Sophia joined We Make Footballers last summer and after doing a fantastic job at weekly sessions, she was invited to be a lead coach at our Holiday Summer Camps. During this period Sophia worked alongside our Level 4 Coach Tutors Esmond and Iuri who were able to share the WMF coaching style and methodology.

After showing dedication to weekly training, leadership qualities and playing a key role at Holiday Camp, she received glowing feedback from parents. Coach Sofia was offered the role of Academy Manager at our Twickenham Academy for the 2017-2018 season and now coaches over 100 children on a Saturday morning. She was assigned Coach Esmond as her Coach mentor who is monitoring her training as part of our Coach Development Scheme. Coach Sophia is a University student who is able to pursue her passion for football and gain professional experience alongside her studies. She has become a brilliant team leader and role model.
