The role of a football coach at We Make Footballers Croydon is about much more than just football coaching. From session planning to analysis to giving feedback, it is an intricate role with many responsibilities.The preparation starts before the players arrive for training with session planning to ensure that no minute of contact time is wasted.
The format of all sessions start with a 10 minute warm up that focuses on practicing skills. After which there are two practices based on the topic focus e.g defending, shooting, dribbling and turning. For the final 30 minutes there are matches starting with 1 vs 1s evolving to 3 vs 3s. However no two sessions are ever the same, due to the broad range of session plans and the progression points and challenges that we tailor to each session.
During the session, a coach offers feedback to the players as well as guidance on how to improve. Often, this is the most rewarding part of the job. When a session has been planned to improve a player’s ability with their weaker foot, their first touch or their shooting accuracy comes to success, it means the coach has achieved their primary responsibility – making a player better.
