Competitive Soccer Teams and Player Development in Ebbw Vale | We Make Footballers

Competitive Soccer Teams at We Make Footballers Gwent: A Development Pathway for Young Players in Ebbw Vale

At We Make Footballers Ebbw Vale, our aim is to help every child become a more confident, skilful and intelligent footballer.

Our weekly sessions provide a positive environment where players can improve their technical ability, build confidence on the ball and enjoy their soccer.

For some players, there comes a point where they are ready for an additional challenge.

That is where our competitive We Make Footballers Gwent teams can provide the next step.

More Than Just Weekly Soccer Coaching in Ebbw Vale

Our weekly Ebbw Vale sessions are designed to help young players develop the technical foundations needed to become better footballers.

Players regularly work on areas including:

  • Ball mastery
  • Dribbling and 1v1 situations
  • Passing and receiving
  • Finishing
  • Decision-making
  • Confidence in possession

Our focus is always on helping each player improve.

For some children, attending a weekly coaching session is the perfect environment for their development. For others who want more soccer and an additional challenge, our WMF Gwent competitive teams provide another opportunity to progress.

What Are the We Make Footballers Gwent Competitive Teams?

Our competitive teams give young players the opportunity to train regularly and play matches against strong opposition.

The focus remains firmly on long-term player development.

We want our players to become comfortable on the ball, confident under pressure and brave enough to express themselves in competitive situations.

Results are naturally part of soccer, but they are not the only way we measure success.

We also look at:

Is the player improving?

Are they becoming more confident?

Are they making better decisions?

Are they developing technically and tactically?

Are they enjoying the challenge?

These are all important parts of a young player's development.

A Development Pathway for Players in Ebbw Vale

One of the biggest benefits of joining We Make Footballers Ebbw Vale is becoming part of the wider We Make Footballers Gwent program.

Players can begin by attending our weekly coaching sessions in Ebbw Vale before potentially progressing into additional opportunities when they are ready.

Our competitive teams provide an extra environment for players who want to train more regularly, play competitive fixtures and continue challenging themselves.

Importantly, We Make Footballers is a development centre rather than a grassroots soccer club.

This means players can continue playing for their grassroots team while also benefiting from additional coaching and competitive opportunities through We Make Footballers Gwent.

Challenging Players Against Strong Opposition

Young players need to experience challenge if they are going to continue improving.

Our competitive teams give players the opportunity to face different opponents, styles of play and match situations.

These experiences can help players:

  • Make quicker decisions
  • Become more confident under pressure
  • Improve their tactical understanding
  • Develop resilience
  • Compete at a higher intensity
  • Become more comfortable expressing themselves in matches

The aim is to challenge players while still maintaining the enjoyment and confidence that are so important in youth soccer.

Creating Opportunities for Young Players

Across We Make Footballers Gwent, we are incredibly proud to have helped more than 30 players progress into FAW academy and professional academy environments.

However, not every player's journey will look the same.

For some children, success may mean becoming more confident on the ball.

For others, it may mean improving their performance for their grassroots team.

Some may progress into one of our competitive teams.

And for a small number of players, opportunities within the academy system may eventually follow.

Our role is to provide a high-quality environment and help every player move closer to reaching their own potential.

Development Comes First

Youth soccer should be about more than simply winning matches.

Our competitive teams are built around the same philosophy as our weekly Ebbw Vale sessions: helping children become better footballers while continuing to enjoy the game.

We want to develop players who are:

Confident. Technical. Brave. Competitive. Willing to learn.

By combining high-quality coaching with regular competitive soccer, we aim to create an environment where young players can continue learning, improving and challenging themselves.
