Competitive Soccer Teams and Player Development in Tredegar | We Make Footballers

Competitive Soccer Teams at We Make Footballers Gwent: A Development Pathway for Young Players in Tredegar

At We Make Footballers Tredegar, our aim is to help every child become a more confident, skilful and intelligent footballer.

Our weekly sessions provide a positive environment where players can improve their technical ability, enjoy their soccer and build confidence on the ball.

For some players, however, there comes a point where they are ready for an additional challenge.

That is where our competitive We Make Footballers Gwent teams can provide the next step.

More Than Just Weekly Soccer Coaching in Tredegar

Our weekly Tredegar sessions are designed to help young players develop the technical foundations that are so important in soccer.

Players regularly work on areas including:

  • Ball mastery
  • Dribbling and 1v1 situations
  • Passing and receiving
  • Finishing
  • Decision-making
  • Confidence in possession

Our focus is not simply on keeping children active. We want every player to leave our sessions having improved as a footballer.

For players who want additional training and more competitive soccer, our WMF Gwent teams provide another opportunity to continue their development.

What Are the We Make Footballers Gwent Competitive Teams?

Our competitive teams give young players the opportunity to train regularly and test themselves in matches against strong opposition.

However, the main focus remains on long-term player development.

We want our players to become confident in possession, comfortable under pressure and brave enough to express themselves during matches.

Competitive soccer naturally involves results, but winning is not the only way we measure success.

We also ask:

Is the player improving?

Are they becoming more confident?

Are they making better decisions?

Are they developing technically and tactically?

Are they enjoying the challenge?

For us, those areas are just as important.

A Development Pathway for Players in Tredegar

One of the biggest benefits of joining We Make Footballers Tredegar is becoming part of the wider We Make Footballers Gwent program.

Players can attend our weekly coaching sessions in Tredegar while also having the opportunity to progress into additional environments when they are ready.

Our competitive teams provide an extra challenge for players who want to train more regularly, play competitive fixtures and continue pushing their development.

Importantly, We Make Footballers is a development centre rather than a grassroots soccer club.

This means players can continue representing their grassroots club while also benefiting from additional coaching and competitive opportunities through We Make Footballers Gwent.

Challenging Players Against Strong Opposition

Young players need to be challenged if they are going to continue improving.

Our competitive teams give players the opportunity to experience different opponents, playing styles and match situations.

These experiences can help players:

  • Make quicker decisions
  • Become more confident under pressure
  • Improve their tactical understanding
  • Develop resilience
  • Compete at a higher intensity
  • Become more comfortable expressing themselves in matches

The aim is to create an environment where players are challenged without losing the enjoyment that is so important in youth soccer.

Creating Opportunities for Young Players

Across We Make Footballers Gwent, we are incredibly proud to have helped more than 30 players progress into FAW academy and professional academy environments.

That does not mean every child who joins us has to become an academy footballer.

Every player's journey is different.

For some players, success may mean becoming more confident.

For others, it may mean improving enough to play more regularly for their grassroots team.

Some may progress into one of our competitive teams.

And for a small number of players, opportunities within the academy system may eventually follow.

Our role is to provide the best possible environment and help every player move closer to their own potential.

Development Comes First

Youth soccer should always be about more than simply winning matches.

Our competitive teams are built around the same philosophy as our weekly Tredegar sessions: helping children become better footballers while continuing to enjoy the game.

We want to develop players who are:

Confident. Technical. Brave. Competitive. Willing to learn.

By combining high-quality coaching with regular competitive soccer, we aim to give young players an environment where they can continue learning, improving and challenging themselves.
