Since launching We Make Footballers Tredegar, one of the most common questions we get from parents is:
“What actually happens in a session?”
So here’s a full behind-the-scenes look at what your child experiences every week — and why our sessions are already helping Tredegar’s young footballers grow in confidence, skill and enjoyment.
1. A Warm Welcome & Fun Starter Activity
Every session starts the same way:
- A friendly welcome from our coaches
- A fun, energetic warm-up
- Games that build movement skills, balance and coordination
From the very first minute, children feel comfortable, included and excited to play.
2. Ball Mastery – The Foundation of the WMF Method
This is where real development happens.
Players work on:
- First touch
- Dribbling
- Changing direction
- Quick feet
- Close control
We use fun challenges, races and mini-technical tasks designed to help children become confident, skilful ball players.
Tredegar players are already showing huge improvement in this area.
3. Skill Development & 1v1 Moves
Next, we introduce a specific skill for the week:
- Turns
- Feints
- Ball protection
- Running with the ball
- Stop–start moves
We teach it clearly, break it down step-by-step, then let the players try it in fun, pressure-free activities.
This builds creativity and confidence — two of the most important ingredients in modern soccer.
4. Small-Sided Games Full of Freedom & Fun
This is the part children absolutely love.
Our games are designed to:
- Encourage decision-making
- Create lots of touches
- Support teamwork
- Build awareness
- Allow players to try new skills
We don’t stand still or queue up — our sessions are active, engaging and high-energy.
Whether it’s 1v1s, 2v2s, or small group matches, every child gets loads of opportunities to play, learn and express themselves.
5. Players of the Week & Positive Feedback
We finish every session by celebrating effort, progress, teamwork and great attitudes.
OurPlayers of the Week awards help:
- Boost confidence
- Reward improvement
- Encourage good behaviour
- Motivate children to keep learning
Parents love this part just as much as the players!
Why This Structure Works
The WMF Method used in Tredegar is proven to help young players develop:
- Strong technical foundations
- Better game understanding
- Confidence on and off the pitch
- A love for soccer that lasts
Every session is purposeful, progressive and designed for children aged 4–12 — whether they’re complete beginners or already playing at a good level.
