We Make Footballers Launches New Medway Academy

We Make Footballers Launches New Medway Academy. We Make Footballers has arrived in the Medway area. The South East’s leading soccer coaching academy have launched their latest franchise, WMF Medway, offering professional coaching in a fun and safe environment for four to 12 year olds.

WMF Medway has been set up by two experienced coaches, Tom Murphy and Curtis George, both of whom have experience working with Gillingham and a number of other professional soccer clubs.

Tom Murphy

For Tom, soccer is a passion that he thinks about from the minute he wakes up in the morning to the moment when he goes to bed at night. He was a scholar at Ebbsfleet and has played semi-professionally for Tonbridge Angels before a serious knee injury at the age of 17 meant he had to give up on his dream of making it as a professional.

The 25-year-old was still determined to make a living from the game, however. He undertook an undergraduate degree in Strength and Conditioning and is just about to complete a Masters in the subject after six years of studying. He compliments his studies by currently working as a Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Gills.

Hard work and persistence have got Tom to where he is today and that is something he is looking to bring to WMF Medway.

Tom’s says his ultimate goal is to create a platform where individuals can grow to not only become the best footballers they can be, but the best people they can be too. He believes that repetition of good habits will create great habits, and that is what WMF is all about.

Curtis George

Curtis meanwhile has had a whole host of jobs across soccer. He’s managed Crystal Palace Under 14s, worked in the Sports Science department at Cheltenham Town and has spent the past year alongside Tom at Gillingham.

Curtis’ soccer journey began when he was at secondary school and he joined his local side. The father of his best friend in the team happened to be an Arsenal scout, which inspired Curtis to be the best that he could possibly be.

He began to get noticed by semi-professional clubs, but it wasn’t until he was 16 that Curtis saw soccer as a possible profession. After leaving school, he attended a sport’s college where he soon became one of the coaches’ favourites; again, this inspired him and before long he was signing for Chatham Town.

Curtis has since played for a number of clubs on the non-league circuit, including Whitstable Town, Sittingbourne, Faversham, Tunbridge Wells and Rochester. He remains in touch with the Arsenal scout and his work with Palace see’s him helping to manage the transition for young players from 9-a-side soccer to 11-a-side.

Both Tom and George are looking forward to turning their hands towards coaching young players in the Medway area, potentially unearthing some stars of the future and hopefully inspiring kids to fall in love with soccer in the same way they’ve been inspired.
