Best football clubs in Carshalton

We Make Footballers
31 March 2022

Carshalton is blessed with many great football clubs. Some of the most famous names in non-league football come from the area, it’s got a rich history for producing talented players and while other junior football in England seems to be going into decline somewhat, Surrey still has a thriving scene.

All of this means that children who are looking to join a team for the first time are a little spoilt for choice. If you’re struggling to decide which local side is best for your child, then take a look at this little list we’ve put together, here at We Make Footballers, of the best football clubs in Carshalton.

AFC Walcountians

AFC Walcountians come highly recommended as the official partner club of We Make Footballers Carshalton. They are an FA Charter Standard club that runs 32 teams for girls and boys from Under 7s through to Under 16s.

Being a partner club of We Make Footballers has big benefits for all parties. When players who have enrolled in the Carshalton Academy are ready to join their first team, the coaches at We Make Footballers can recommend them to AFC Walcountians, safe in the knowledge that the club will provide a suitable environment.

Conversely, any players currently with AFC Walcountians who may need or want to work on certain areas of their game can be recommended to sign up for We Make Footballers Carshalton, where the FA-qualified coaches can help improve a child’s ability through weekly training sessions.

Collaborations like this can make a real difference to a player’s skillset and their enjoyment of the sport.

Carshalton Athletic

Carshalton Athletic don’t just represent the town in the Isthmian League Premier Division – they have an award-winning youth section for both boys and girls as well, having been presented with the UEFA Silver Award for the best grassroots club in Europe during a ceremony at Wembley Stadium in 2013.

For the 2019-20 season, Athletic are running 38 teams from Under 7s through to Under 18s. Over 450 players are registered with them, making them one of the biggest junior football clubs in the area.

Training takes place weekly on the 3G pitch at the War Memorial Sports Ground with many matches also held there, giving young players the chance to experience the thrill of playing in a proper stadium.

Sutton Common Rovers Colts

Another notable local non-league football club with thriving junior sections is nearby Sutton Common Rovers. Their first team play in the Combined Counties League – winning the Premier Challenge Cup last season – from their famous home at Gander Green Lane.

Their Colts section is a relatively new addition to the club, having only been set up in 2010 and initially with just three teams. They’ve experienced steady growth over the past decade however and now 11 junior sides which feed into another six Under 18 teams.

From here, the best players can push for the Under 23s and ultimately, Sutton Common Rovers’ first team. This provides a clear pathway for players who could join the club at the age of eight and find themselves making a first-team debut at Gander Green Lane 10 years later.
